The Sunrise Centre, 164 Broadway, Newport, Rhode Island, USA, welcomes tourists and visitors. Directly across the street from Dunkin Donuts and in the vicinity of several fine restaurants and coffee shops, the Newport Sunrise Centre is a three minute walk from Washington Square in Newport's Historic District and an eight minute drive from the Newport beaches. The Sunrise Centre is located on historic and picturesque island of Aquidneck (means Peaceful in a Native American tongue) off the Rhode Island coast.
To reach
the Sunrise Centre from the north, take either the Bristol or
Sakonnett Bridge and follow the signs to Route 114. Follow 114 south
into Newport. Route 114 becomes Broadway. Proceed until reaching 164
Broadway.
To reach the Sunrise Centre from the south, take the Newport Bridge into Newport. Get off at the last exit. Turn left at the light, go through one more light until coming to the third light. Take a right onto Broadway, Newport, and continue until reaching 164 Broadway.
From the
appearance of its architectural design, and from a
photograph
showing horses tethered to a hitching post outside the Centre, the
three story building which houses the Sunrise Centre seems to have
been constructed in the mid to late 1880's. When a fire in the year
1900 destroyed all the records in Newport City Hall, the prior
history of the Sunrise Centre, along with the history of many other
buildings in Newport, went up in the blaze. Since 1900, the Sunrise
Centre has been home to many different businesses including a tire
store, grocery, dance studio, and liquor store.
A public restroom is available for your convenience. The Sunrise Centre welcomes tourists and visitors.
